CULTURAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Each month we feature a different local cultural attraction on our website. Walton residents can visit the featured attraction of the month with their family members, and Walton will reimburse them 90% of the ticket price for admission!

ATLANTA 

MAY 
Atlanta Botanical Garden

Explore more than 30 acres of breathtaking botanical bliss. Spend the day with your kids visiting the Children’s Garden, swimming in the Sunflower Fountain, exploring the Venus flytraps in the Soggy Bog and learning about the honeybees in the observation hive. Stroll through the treetops on the Kendeda Canopy Walk, learn about new plants in the Sheffield Botanical Library and enjoy a collection of rare orchids never before grown in the U.S. There’s something for everyone. Open Tuesday thru Sunday, 9 am – 7 pm.

JUNE
Tellus Science Museum

Stare into the mouth of a Tyrannasaurus Rex, catch a glimpse of a saber-tooth cat, walk through the history of motorized transportation and enjoy hands-on fun for kids of all ages. You can also enjoy the Weinman Mineral Gallery, with a magnificent collection of gems and minerals, as well as helping you understand the geology of our planet.
Open every day 10 am-5 pm.
Adults $14, Children 3-17 $10, Seniors 65+ $12.

AUGUSTA

APRIL
Augusta Canal Tour

The Augusta Canal helped usher the Industrial Revolution into the South by harnessing the Savannah River to power mills and factories, including the Confederate Powder Works. One of the only intact, functioning American 19th century industrial power canal systems and home to diverse plants and animals of the southeastern Fall Line, Augusta Canal National Heritage Area is an oasis for outdoor recreation. Take a tour on a Petersburg boat and learn all about this important part of our history.
Admission $13.75 adult, $11.75 senior or student.
Monday-
Saturday, 10 am, 11:30 am and 3:00 pm.
Includes admission to the Canal Discovery

Augusta Museum of History

Visit the region’s home for history. Featured are a number of permanent exhibitions, including the award-winning The Augusta Story, a 12,000 year journey through local history. Exhibits include a 1917 steam locomotive, a tribute to Mr. James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, a celebration of the grand tradition of the sport of golf and much more.
Open Thursday-Saturday, 10 am 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm -5 pm.
